Getting Started: Choosing Your Starter Digimon Pack
Launch the game, press Start on the opening screen and select “New Game”.
The game will proceed automatically for a bit.
Once Junior, Ivy, and Teddy enter the MAGAMI Online Center, you will get to enter your character’s nickname. After that, you will have to choose your starter Digimon pack.

There are three packs to choose from: Balanced (A), Powerful (B), and Maniac (C).
The packs consist in different combinations of the following Rookie Digimon:
- Kotemon: a physical attacker, Kotemon has the third-fastest experience growth up to level 40. Kotemon is also an extremely versatile Digimon, and will gain early access to the powerful Omnimon and Imperialdramon digivolution trees.
- Renamon: a magic attacker, Renamon has the second-fastest experience growth up to level 40, tied with Guilmon. Renamon has a very strong regular Mega evolution in Sakuyamon, and won’t require you to grind for alternative digivolutions instead.
- Patamon: on the positive side, Patamon is, by far, the best support Digimon in the game. On the other hand, it is also difficult to train, as it’s fairly weak offensively, and also has a slow experience growth rate.
- Monmon: an all-rounder, Monmon has the fastest experience growth rate up to level 40, which means it has the shortest path to a Mega digivolution. Monmon will also gain early access to the Imperialdramon digivolution tree.
- Guilmon: a mixed attacker, Guilmon is, essentially, Renamon’s counterpart. As mentioned earlier, Guilmon is tied for the second-fastest experience growth up to level 40. It also has access to a strong regular Mega evolution in Gallantmon, and won’t require too much grinding.
- Agumon: a mixed attacker, Agumon is arguably the strongest Digimon in the early game. It has a strong regular Mega digivolution in WarGreymon, and can easily branch off into Omnimon. However, Agumon has the second-slowest experience growth up to level 40.
- Kumamon: a physical attacker, Kumamon is a strong early game Digimon, but it falls off towards the later stages. Kumamon has the slowest experience growth up to level 40. Its regular Mega digivolution, Marsmon, isn’t particularly strong either.
Pack A, the Balanced Pack, has Kotemon, Renamon, and Patamon.
Just as its name suggests, this pack is a classic JRPG pack, featuring a physical attacker (Kotemon), a magic attacker (Renamon), and a healer (Patamon).

Pack B, the Powerful Pack, has Monmon, Agumon, and Renamon.
If you choose this pack, keep in mind that you will not have access to any healing techniques in the early game. You will have to rely on items instead.
This pack makes up for the lack of a dedicated healer with Monmon’s fast growth, plus both Renamon’s and Agumon’s attacking power.

Pack C, the Maniac Pack, has Kumamon, Guilmon, and Patamon.
Kumamon will act as a strong early game Digimon, but you will likely rely on Guilmon in the late game. Patamon will act as a dedicated healer.

Select a pack and then choose “Yes” to continue.
After this, you will be able to control your character for the first time.
Asuka City – Main Lobby
From the Login Room’s door, turn left and walk up the stairs.

At the top of the stairs, walk forward and talk twice to the clerk in the center.

Select the “Yes, please” option to download your starter Digimon pack.

Once again, the game will proceed automatically after this.
Tamer Genji
Outside the Main Lobby, you will be immediately challenged by Tamer Genji.

Tamer Genji has a Kuwagamon.
This is a simple tutorial battle. Your Digimon can perform the following actions:
- Fight: regular physical attack.
- Tech: use a physical, magic, support, or healing technique (skill). Techniques will consume MP.
- DV: change your current digivolution.
- Tag: switch to a different Digimon. You can also use this command to perform a DNA digivolution.
- Item: use a healing, boosting, or a damage-dealing item.
- Run: try to run away from the fight.
In order to beat Kuwagamon, select Tech.

Use your Rookie Digimon’s signature tech.

You will one-shot Kuwagamon, ending the fight.
After the fight, you will automatically enter the Digimon Lab. Turn around and go back to the Main Lobby.

Walk forward and head up the stairs again, then exit the Main Lobby.

Exploring Asuka City – Useful NPCs
There are five common NPCs in Digimon World 3. You will be able to find them in all cities:
- Gatomon: Inn owner, will restore your party’s HP and MP.
- Guardromon: will save your progress, also acting as a checkpoint. After a game over, you will automatically return to your most recent save point. You will find Guardromon at the Inn as well.
- Gargomon: sells weapons, armors, headgear, and shields.
- Wizardmon: sells healing, boosting, and damage-dealing items.
- Doctor Kadomatsu/Piximon: will let you swap your party Digimon, change your current digivolutions, and will let you check the digivolution trees.
Gatomon and Guardromon
Exiting the Main Lobby, head south and you will find Gatomon’s Inn.

Inside the building, you will find Gatomon on the right side. Talk to it twice and select “Stay in Inn” to heal your party.

You will find Guardromon on the left side of the Inn. Talk to it twice in order to access the Save menu.

Gargomon, Gomamon, and Wizardmon
The building next to the Gatomon’s Inn is the Smith Shop. You can enter from either door.

Inside the shop, you will find Gargomon on the left side. Talking to Gargomon twice will let you access the Armory.

On the right side, you will find Wizardmon. Talk to it twice in order to access the Item Shop.

In the center, between Gargomon and Wizardmon, you will find Gomamon. Talk to it twice in order to access the Pawn Shop.
Gomamon sells accessories, which can boost your stats and elemental resistances.

Doctor Kadomatsu/Piximon
In the Digimon Lab, head down the stairs to the right of the entrance.
Continue up the second set of stairs to find Doctor Kadomatsu. Talk to him twice in order to access the digivolution menu.

Leaving Asuka City
You will be able to leave Asuka City as soon as you defeat Tamer Genji. We’ll be traveling through a few areas to eventually reach Seiryu City.
So at this point after exiting the Main Lobby, head south.

Continue south until you reach the bridge. Press “X” in order to advance to the next area – Asuka Bridge.

Continue heading south and you will quickly exit the bridge.

Central Park
From Asuka Bridge’s exit, follow the paved road and head east.

Continue along the paved road. Head east, then turn south.

Walk a short distance south and then turn north once you are past the young girl.
Going along the paved road, walk a short distance north and then continue east.

Keep heading east until you reach Central Park’s exit, leading to Wire Forest.
Leomon’s Gym (Optional)

At Leomon’s Gym, you will be able to raise your party member’s stats. In the early game, Leomon will offer five different training menus:
- Punch: raises the Digimon’s Strength stat. Strength determines the power of physical attacks.
- Defense: raises the Digimon’s Defense stat. Defense determines how much damage a Digimon will take from physical moves.
- Yoga: raises the Digimon’s Spirit stat. Spirit determines the power of magic techniques.
- Study: raises the Digimon’s Wisdom stat, which determines its resistance against magic techniques.
- Jump rope: raises the Digimon’s Speed stat. Speed determines the order in which Digimon will act in battle. Digimon with higher speed will act first, will occasionally be able to perform two moves in succession, and will also have a higher chance of evading attacks.
Leomon’s Gym requires you to spend Training Points (TP). You will earn 5 TP whenever your Rookie Digimon levels up.
Leomon offers three different courses: the 1 TP course, the 5 TP course, and the 10 TP course.
Spending more TP will raise your Digimon’s stats faster. However, your Digimon will also have a higher chance of failing the training course.
If your Digimon fail the training course, they will not gain any stat points.
Each training course is performed automatically. The higher a Digimon’s stat is, the higher its chances will be of successfully completing the respective training course.
Training at Gyms is the easiest way to boost your Digimon’s stats. A perfect run through the 10 TP course can raise a single stat by 50-plus points.
Wire Forest Entrance
Before proceeding, raise your three Rookie Digimon up to level 5. Doing so will unlock their respective Champion digivolution.
From the forest entrance, head southeast.

Keep walking east until you reach the next area.

From the entrance, head east.

Keep heading east, then turn south at the crossroad.

Keep going south, then turn east again under the pipeline.

East Wire Forest
Go south from the entrance of the forest.

Stay close to the trees on the north side and head east from the entrance.
