Twice a year, on Spring 18th and Autumn 18th, the Horse Derby is held in Rose Plaza.

Requirements

To enter a horse into the race, it must be an adult. If you don’t have a horse or it isn’t fully grown, you can still attend the festival to place bets.

You can obtain a horse from Mugi on Spring 4th of your first year. It will take 90 days for your pony to mature into an adult.

Be sure to care for it daily by brushing and talking to it. Mugi will take the horse back if it doesn’t have at least 4 hearts of affection when he checks on it after 90 days.

Only an adult horse can be entered into the race.

The day before each Derby (Spring 17th and Autumn 17th), Mayor Thomas will visit your farm and ask if you want to enter your adult horse in the race. If you agree, he will take your horse for the day to prepare.

Event Details

To attend the festival, head to Rose Plaza between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM on the day of the Derby.

The event consists of three races. You can bet on all three, and if you’ve entered your own horse, you will race it in the third and final race.

Betting On Races

Speak to Mayor Thomas at the betting booth in the top-left corner of the plaza to buy betting tickets.

Tickets cost 50 G each and are converted into Medals for placing bets.

For each race, you will see a list of 4 horses and their odds (e.g., 3x, 15x).

The lower the number, the higher the chance that horse has of winning.

If you bet on the winning horse, your Medals will be multiplied by its odds. For example: betting 100 Medals on a horse with 10x odds will earn you 1,000 Medals if it wins.

How to Win the Race

When it’s time for the third race, you will control your horse in a minigame.

The goal is to manage your horse’s stamina to finish in first place. Repeatedly press the action button to speed up, but watch the heart-shaped stamina meter. If it depletes, your horse will slow down significantly.

A good strategy is to maintain a steady pace and use your bursts of speed strategically to overtake other horses.

If you slow down strategically when you’re way ahead, the stamina bar will fill back up slowly, and then you can run at full speed again.

Tip: Save your game before entering the plaza. This allows you to reload and re-try the race if you don’t win, and it also lets you re-place your bets if you lose a lot of money.

Prizes & Benefits

The main goal of the Derby is to accumulate Medals, which can be exchanged for prizes by talking to Mayor Thomas.

The prize shop contains rare items, including a Power Berry and a Truth Jewel.

Tip: The Perfume and Dress are also extremely valuable, but those items will only become available once the Power Berry and Truth Jewel have been claimed.

Note: Your Medals are saved between Derby festivals, so you don’t have to spend them all at once. For making money, the Brooch offers the best return on investment. One Brooch will only cost you 900 G worth of medals, so you earn a profit of 880-980 G (98-109%) for every Brooch.

Special Prizes

The first time you win the horse race, Mayor Thomas will give you a Power Berry, permanently increasing your stamina.

Combined with the Power Berry available for purchase in the prize shop, you can obtain two from your very first successful Derby.
