This page explains the details of how to cook food in SoS:FoMT. We’ll cover how to get a kitchen, how to get utensils, where you can learn recipes, plus some other tidbits about cooking recipes.
Unlocking the Kitchen
To get the kitchen, just upgrade your house at Gotts’ Workshop.
The very first house renovation (the Slightly Bigger House) will get you a kitchen. It costs the following in money & materials:
- 150 Lumber
- 50 Material Stone
- 3,000 G

Once you place your order it’ll take Gotts 3 days to finish the upgrade. Then you’ll have a shiny new kitchen in the middle of your farmhouse.
At that point you could make recipes that don’t require equipment, but eventually you’ll need to purchase utensils to expand your cookbook.
Kitchen Utensils
There are 8 kitchen utensils you can buy in total, and all of them are needed if you want to cook every recipe.
The first one you can get, a Seasoning Set, can be purchased right after the farmhouse upgrade is complete.
You’ll find all of these utensils for sale at the General Store.

However, the remaining 7 utensils will only be released in 10-day intervals. This means it will take 2 in-game seasons to be able to buy all of them.
| All Cooking Utensils | ||
|---|---|---|
| Equipment | Availability | Cost |
| Seasoning Set | Immediately after purchasing the Medium House upgrade | 2,500 G |
| Cooking Pot | 10 days after the Seasoning Set becomes available for purchase | 1,000 G |
| Frying Pan | 10 days after the Cooking Pot becomes available for purchase | 1,200 G |
| Knife | 10 days after the Frying Pan becomes available for purchase | 1,500 G |
| Oven | 10 days after the Knife becomes available for purchase | 2,500 G |
| Rolling Pin | 10 days after the Oven becomes available for purchase | 750 G |
| Mixer | 10 days after the Rolling Pin becomes available for purchase | 1,200 G |
| Whisk | 10 days after the Mixer becomes available for purchase | 500 G |
Getting a Fridge
If there just isn’t enough storage room in your cabinet to keep all the ingredients you need, Gotts will also sell refrigerators at a fair price.
This allows you to keep raw ingredients, cooked dishes, and pantry items all in one place. The normal Refrigerator costs 2,500 G.
But after you upgrade to the Large House, you can buy the Large Refrigerator for 5,000 G.

Learning Recipes
The most challenging part of cooking in any Story of Seasons game is learning the recipes and collecting them until you complete the cookbook.
There are a total of 120 recipes in the game, and you can start learning them even before you have a kitchen.
Each recipe can also be obtained in multiple ways.
For example, you can learn how to make Raisin Bread by watching the Tasty Time TV show or through inspiration by making 5 dishes with Wild Grapes.
Below we’ll detail the primary methods of how you can go about learning recipes.
Method 1: Inspiration
The majority of the game’s recipes can be learned simply through cooking inspiration.

Here’s how it works:
Whenever you make a certain number of dishes with a specific ingredient, there’s a chance that you might learn something new. Each inspiration dish has a certain number of total dishes you’ll need to cook, and certain ingredients you’ll need to cook with, before the inspiration happens.
Each recipe in our recipe listing explain how to learn it, so if you want to know how to unlock a recipe’s inspiration then check out that page.
Method 2: Tasty Time TV Show
Every Tuesday the entertainment channel on your TV will broadcast a cooking show that teaches you how to make a new dish.
There are 15 recipes in regular rotation – meaning you can still rewatch the episodes and learn them even if you miss a few shows.

Method 3: High Friendship with Villagers
As you befriend the people of Mineral Town, you’ll notice that basically everyone has a recipe they can teach you.
Specifically after reaching the 4 friendship note milestone, they’ll mention a new recipe to you in passing. Here’s a breakdown of who can teach you what:
| Villager | Recipe Taught |
|---|---|
| Carter | Strawberry Milk |
| Cherry (Nature Sprite) | Yam Dessert |
| Doctor | Mixed Juice |
| Dudley | Cheese Fondue |
| Ellen | Sandwich |
| Gotts | Okonomiyaki |
| Harris | Fried Rice |
| Kai | Popcorn |
| Lillia | Tamagoyaki |
| Manna | Mashed Potatoes |
| Mugi | Ice Cream |
| Saibara | Winter Sun |
| Sasha | Chocolate Cookies |
| Zack | Summer Sun |

Method 4: Anna’s Confectionaries Class
Reaching 8 friendship notes with Anna will prompt her to invite you to her exclusive cooking classes held every Saturday at her house.

She will teach you six recipes in total:
To unlock the first cutscene that lets you attend the rest of the dessert classes, enter Anna and Basil’s house under the following conditions:
- Have at least 8 friendship notes with Anna
- It is anytime between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM on a Saturday
- The weather is Sunny
- You have spoken to both Anna and Manna in the last season
- Both Anna and Manna are inside Basil’s house
Method 5: Lou’s Cookbook
After offering 75 gifts to the Harvest Goddess, a new visitor will arrive in Mineral Town.
Lou is a chef from the Forgotten Valley who is more than happy to teach you new recipes once you’ve shown her your previous experience.

She will teach you 10 recipes when you’ve made a certain number of recipes from this list:
- Zaru Soba
- Mixed Juice
- Popcorn
- Tamagoyaki
- Chocolate Cookies
- Bamboo Rice
- Caffeine
- Curry Rice
- Miso Soup
- Large Mayonnaise
Below is a table of what you’ll learn from Lou after you cooked X number of dishes from the list above:
| Lou’s Recipe | Requirements |
|---|---|
| Wild Grape Water | 1 dish |
| Veggie Juice | 2 dishes |
| Roasted Corn | 3 dishes |
| Baked Apple | 4 dishes |
| Curry Bread | 5 dishes |
| Relax Tea | 6 dishes |
| Super Caffeine | 7 dishes |
| Relax Tea Leaves | 8 dishes |
| Spring Sun | 9 dishes |
| Autumn Sun | All 10 dishes |
Method 6: Rare Items
Two rare recipes show up in unique items that can be found around Mineral Town.

The Message in a Bottle contains the recipe for French Fries. It can be fished up from the ocean during Spring when you use a Mithril Fishing Rod or higher.

The second rare recipe can be uncovered on the 255th floor of the Spring Mine. There’s a small chance that you can dig up a Tomatosetta Stone there, which contains the recipe for Ketchup.

These two items can either be displayed in your farmhouse as decorations, or sold to Huang for profit after learning the recipes.
Using Recipes
There are really only three things you can do with cooked food:
- Eat the food for stamina
- Give your food to villagers as gifts
- Or sell your food to Huang

Unfortunately, cooking large amounts of food for profit doesn’t really work out in SoS: FoMT because it’s not the most efficient use of your ingredients.
Huang likes to haggle his prices, so you need to offer one item at a time to sell anything to him.
For complex dishes like the Suns, you might be able to get a good price as they can sell for up to 170,000 G (such as the Winter Sun).
But cooking easy and cheap meals just to sell them to Huang isn’t really worth the effort.
