Mining is the only way to get gems and ores in Story of Seasons: FoMT.
And there are two mines in this game: the Spring Mine and the Lake Mine.
On this page you’ll find everything you need to know about both Mines, how to mine efficiently, and how to keep your stamina and fatigue levels healthy.
The Spring Mine

The Spring Mine is unlocked at the beginning of the game and is 255 levels deep. You can access it from the entrance to the right of the Harvest Goddess’ waterfall, right behind the Hot Spring.
In the Spring Mine, you’ll usually find raw ore that you can use for tool upgrades and buying things at the Forge. Check our mining items page for a full list of every item you can find in the Spring Mine.
Its location is also convenient because it’s right near the Hot Spring, so you can just go back outside and recharge if you run out of stamina.

The Lake Mine

Initially, the Lake Mine will only be accessible during Winter when the water of Kappa’s Lake starts to freeze. During the other seasons you can’t cross to the entrance because you won’t be able to swim.
However, in Year 3 or later, you can discover a tool called the Travel Stone on the 255th floor of the Spring Mine.
This item will allow you to teleport to anywhere in Mineral Town, so this allows you to travel directly to the entrance of the Lake Mine during any season.
The Lake Mine contains precious gems and minerals that can be sold for a high price. You’ll also be able to find Kappa Jewels and Cursed Tools in this mine.
But for a full list of all items you can again visit our mine items page for everything available in the Lake Mine.
The Fishing Lake
On the 9th floor of the Lake Mine, you’ll discover a fishing lake. This is the only area that you can catch the rare Coelacanth legendary fish.

To catch this fish, you’ll need to have caught at least 5 other legendary fish and have a Level 6 or higher Fishing Rod.
Hammer Upgrades
Upgrading your Hammer can make it more efficient to break stones and collect resources in the mines. For each level, the stamina required to use the Hammer decreases and the tool becomes more and more powerful.
To upgrade the Hammer, bring it to Saibara at the Forge and offer him a piece of raw ore and the money required for an upgrade.
Getting the Mine Elevator
The Mine Elevator is the best tool that can take you to any floor of the mines.

The Harvest Goddess installs the Mine Elevator for you as a gift after you offer her a total of 100 loved or liked gifts.

A control panel will then appear next to the entrances of both mines, and this will allow you to immediately access levels 1, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 225.
These levels are only unlocked once you reach them by yourself, and the Mine Elevator does not extend up to the 255th floor.
