Golden Lumber is a rare and expensive material that can be used to create permanent fencing on your farm.

Unlike regular lumber or material stone, Golden Lumber will never decay or become damaged. This property makes it the ultimate fencing solution.

Note: You might be familiar with Golden Lumber as an item from the original Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town. If you used this material in HM:FoMT, villagers would knock on your door every day and tell you that displaying it on your lawn is rude and offensive. In the Story of Seasons remake, Golden Lumber is no longer offensive to the townsfolk, so you can use it with no repercussions.

Obtaining Golden Lumber

There are two ways to obtain Golden Lumber in the game: purchasing it from Gotts’ Workshop or receiving it as a reward from Mayor Thomas.

Location 1: Gotts’ Workshop

The main place you can get Golden Lumber is from Gotts.

He will offer this lumber for sale once you place a stack of 999 Lumber in your cabinet.

Then you can buy Golden Lumber from him under the “Materials” tab in his shop for 100,000 G apiece.

Gotts sells a piece of Golden Lumber to the farmer.

Location 2: Mayor Thomas’ Annual Request

Another way to get Golden Lumber for a smaller cost is by completing the Mayor’s annual quest.

Every year on Winter 2nd, Mayor Thomas will visit the farmhouse to ask for your help. He will ask you to obtain any one of the following items for him before 7:00 PM:

The item is chosen completely at random, so there’s no possible way to know which one you’ll need to get for him.

Tip: To avoid getting an item that’s difficult to obtain within the day, you can save prior & reload the save from the night before to reset the item request repeatedly until you get an easy item.

Once you’ve successfully delivered the item to the Mayor before 7:00 PM, he will award you with a single piece of Golden Lumber.

The farmer receives Golden Lumber from Mayor Thomas.

Note: Failing to deliver his request will result in -10 Friendship Points with the Mayor.

Uses

Fencing

Golden Lumber can be placed directly into the ground to create a fence that will never decay or become damaged. Fences are mainly used in this game to contain farm animals within a certain area, or to control the spread of Wild Grass.

Selling to Huang

If you can’t find any use for your Golden Lumber, you can sell it to Huang once you become friends with him at 4 friendship notes.

To sell Golden Lumber to Huang, stand in front of his counter while holding the item. Don’t interact directly with his sprite, as it will register as a gift instead.

Huang will then offer you a price, which you can actually reject for a chance at getting him to bid higher.

The price range for Golden Lumber is anywhere between 48,000 G and 57,000 G.

Huang offers to buy Golden Lumber from the farmer.
