You’ll first acquire a Horse on Summer 14th of Year 1, when Ramon offers you one for free. This is also when the Equestrian Park unlocks as a new map area.
Riding your horse allows you to travel across all map areas far faster than moving on foot. And with the right Techniques, you can forage for resources much quicker on horseback.
Your horse will live in the barn and eat fodder like barn animals, but it does not count toward your farm animal capacity. It’s also categorized as a “Pet” on your barn’s blackboard.
Getting Your Horse
Ramon will visit on Summer 14, Y1, allowing you to choose a horse between four colors: Brown, Red, White, or Black.

If you later decide you want a different color, horses can be purchased from Ramon’s Critters at the Bazaar for 10,000 G each.
However, since you can only own one horse at a time, you would first need to rehome your current horse at the Fuzzy Friends Shelter. Doing so will reset all of the horse’s stats, so it’s ideal to pick a horse upfront and maintain it for the rest of the game.
Horse Care Basics
You can view your horse’s stats on the barn blackboard, under the same tab where your pets are listed.

| Label | Element | Description |
|---|---|---|
| a | Animal Tab | Allows you to view and navigate all animals |
| b | Status Icon (Feed / Pet / Train) |
Colored icon indicates the action has been completed for the day |
| c | Horse Derby Award | Displays the award your horse has won |
| d | Friendship Level | Shows your current friendship level. This determines your horse’s running speed |
| e | Training Level | Shows the horse’s training level. This determines your horse’s maximum stamina for how long it can run |
| f | Personality | Displays your horse’s personality |
Your horse can also express its needs through bubble icons that can appear above its head.
| Bubble Icon | Indication | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Sleeping | Your horse sleeps at night and naps during the day. Waking it while sleeping will lower its friendship. | |
| Feeding | Currently eating | |
| Hungry | No food or fodder available. Appears after 8:00 PM if unfed that day. | |
| Needs petting | Horse wants to be petted. Appears randomly | |
| Needs brushing | Horse wants to be brushed. Appears randomly |
Friendship (Speed)
Your horse’s Friendship level determines its top running speed. More hearts mean a faster horse.
| Friendship | Speed | Lap Time at Equestrian Park |
|---|---|---|
| 0–3 ♥ | Normal | ~30 seconds |
| 4–6 ♥ | Fast | ~27 seconds |
| 7–9 ♥ | Very Fast | ~24 seconds |
| 10 ♥ | Blazing Fast | ~21 seconds |

You can raise your horse’s Friendship through daily care like petting it, brushing it, and feeding it Horse Treats. A heart icon will appear above your horse’s head whenever its Friendship increases.
| Method | Details |
|---|---|
| Petting | Stand near your horse and interact with it without any tool equipped. |
| Brushing | Equip the Brush and use it on the horse. |
| Grazing in the Pasture | Your horse enters and leaves the barn on its own and grazes in the pasture at 10 AM except on rainy days. |
| Hand-feeding Fodder or Horse Treat | Equip a Fodder or Horse Treat and right-click on your horse. You can only feed it once per day, so feed it before 10 AM, when it normally grazes. |
| Winning the Horse Derby | Placing in the Horse Derby increases both Friendship and Training. |

Horse Training (Stamina)
Training determines your horse’s maximum stamina, which is also defined by the fire icons (“Training”) that you will see on your barn’s blackboard.
Higher training levels allows longer sprints before your horse becomes exhausted.
| Training | Max Stamina |
|---|---|
| 0 🔥 | 400 |
| 1 🔥 | 430 |
| 2 🔥 | 460 |
| 3 🔥 | 500 |
| 4 🔥 | 550 |
| 5 🔥 | 600 |
| 6 🔥 | 700 |
| 7 🔥 | 800 |
| 8 🔥 | 900 |
| 9 🔥 | 1,000 |
| 10 🔥 | 1,200 |
When your horse’s stamina gauge starts running low, release SHIFT (sprint) before it empties completely. This allows your horse to recover stamina while moving.
If the gauge hits zero, your horse will stop completely.

Training your horse increases its maximum stamina/training level. You’ll mostly raise its training level just by riding your horse around.
But below is a table listing all the ways to increase your horse’s training level:
| Method | Details |
|---|---|
| Riding Regularly | Ride your horse frequently. Occasionally a 🔥 icon appears above your horse to indicate a Training value increase. |
| Train at the Equestrian Park | Interact with the board at the entrance of the Equestrian Park to train up to 3x per day. |
| Winning the Horse Derby | Placing in the Summer or Winter Derby increases both Friendship and Training. |
