The beehive can provide you with a steady stream of income with relatively low daily maintenance. Simply plant flowers in the beekeeping field, and bees will gather nectar and produce honeycombs for you!

On this page we’ll explain how the beekeeping field works in Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar. We’ll cover how to unlock the beehive & beekeeping field, all available upgrades, and how to harvest all types of honeycombs to process into Honey.

How to Unlock

To begin beekeeping you’ll need to reach Bazaar Rank 3 and complete Arata’s request “Prepping for Some Heavy Lifting”.

This will get you access to Arata’s Heavy Lifters bazaar stall, which is where you can buy the beekeeping field & all upgrades.

Once this stall is unlocked you can purchase the Beekeeping Field for 10,000 G to open a dedicated beekeeping area in the Mountains.

How Beekeeping Works

After Arata sets up the Beekeeping Field, you can begin honey farming immediately. Here’s how:

Step 1: Plant flowers or herbs from your bag in the beekeeping field. Only flowers that match the current season can be planted.

Step 2: Wait 4 days and you’ll find fresh honeycombs ready for harvest. Rain does not affect this process and you don’t need to water anything in your beekeeping field.

When the beehive starts to sparkle, it’s ready to harvest and you can collect your honeycombs from the beehive.

This process will repeat every 4 days as long as your beekeeping field’s flowers are in season.

Note: Only season-appropriate flowers can be planted in the beekeeping field. When the season changes, any out-of-season flowers will wilt and stop producing honey.

Honeycombs & Flowers

There are four types of honeycombs available in the game.

What type of honeycomb you harvest depends entirely on the choice of flowers you plant in your beekeeping field. Then all honeycombs can be processed into their specific Honey at the Blue Windmill.

Tip: You will harvest the same amount of Honeycombs as the number of flowers currently planted in your field, regardless of type. For example: if you have 20 Moondrop Flowers and 10 Buttercups in your field, then each harvest will get you 30 Honeycombs.

Below is a list of all Honeycombs, their related Honey items, and the list of flowers/herbs you can plant to get that specific Honeycomb from your beehive.

Royal Honeycombs

Just like rare crops, beekeeping has a random chance to produce a rare Royal Honeycomb.

Any flower or herb can potentially yield this Honeycomb, but the result can only be determined when you harvest from your beehive.

Here are some tips to improve your odds of getting Royal Honeycombs:

Tip #1: Plant higher-quality flowers & herbs.

The higher the quality level, the greater the chances are of you getting Royal Honeycombs.

Tip #2: Once planted, a flower will continue producing the same type of honeycomb continually. So if the initial harvest does not produce a Royal Honeycomb, future harvests from that batch are not likely to do so.

If you’re aiming for consistent Royal Honeycombs then you could cut down your field & replant it if you don’t get what you want in the initial harvest.

Tip #3: Plant Mint! It grows in all four seasons and does not wilt.

You can also increase the quality of your Mint by sharing with Nature Sprite Ivy to raise your Forageables Sprite Level.

Honeycomb Quality

The quality of your harvested honeycombs gets determined by your Sprite Level with Honey.

You can increase honeycomb quality by sharing any honeycombs or honey with the Nature Sprite Honey. You can also check your current sprite level in the Nature Sprites menu screen.

Note: The quality of the honeycombs you process in the Blue Windmill directly impacts the quality of the final honey product you get from crafting.

Beekeeping Field Expansions

Your beekeeping field can be upgraded twice at Heavy Lifters after the initial purchase.

Each upgrade unlocks additional plots, letting you plant more flowers and produce more honeycombs per harvest cycle.

Field Level Required Bazaar Rank No. of Flower Plots
Beekeeping Field 3+ 18
Beekeeping Expansion 4+ 36
Bigger Beekeeping Expansion 5+ 54

Protection from Hurricanes & Blizzards

Hurricanes (in Summer) and Blizzards (in Winter) can devastate unprotected fields. If a storm hits without windscreens for protection, roughly ~70% of the flowers in the beekeeping field will be destroyed.

So be sure to craft Windscreen Kits at the Red Windmill and have them in storage to be ready to set them up before a storm arrives.

Below is a table of how many total Windscreen Kits you’ll need to use to protect your entire beekeeping field:

Field Level Windscreens Needed

Beekeeping Expansion 4
Bigger Beekeeping Expansion 6

Seasonal Changes

At the end of each season, you’ll want to check your beekeeping field.

Because any flowers that don’t match the upcoming season will wilt once the new month begins.

So as you reach the end of the month you’ll want to collect any ready-to-harvest honeycombs from the beehive, then use your Sickle to cut and recover out-of-season flowers before they wilt. This way, you won’t lose flowers or unharvested honeycombs.
