In Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar you can cook recipes in your kitchen. These recipes can be eaten to restore your Stamina, and many even offer temporary buffs.

Cooked dishes also fit into many of the town’s festivals, including the Cook-Off & Bake-Off, the Juice Festival, the Pumpkin Festival, and Hearth Day.

This guide covers everything you need to know about cooking in the game, from kitchen utensils to learning recipes and understanding recipe buffs.

Your Kitchen

Your Kitchen is located inside your home from the start of the game. It’s worth noting that cooking doesn’t consume Stamina or take up any in-game time.

Simply interact with the kitchen counter to begin.

Kitchen Equipment

Certain recipes require extra kitchen equipment, purchasable from Garon’s Construction.

There are three pieces of equipment available, and they can be used instantly after purchase.

How Recipes Work

The game features a total of 266 recipes, but you start the game only knowing only a few.

There are two ways you can learn recipes:

  • Finding or obtaining recipes: Some recipes can be found in residents’ homes, or some recipes you’ll receive as rewards from requests, festivals, and title achievements.
  • Eating new dishes: You can learn any recipe by just eating the final dish, no matter how you acquire it. You can start by purchasing all the food at Café Madeleine.

Recipes in shop menus or in your bag show an icon beneath the dish name (as seen below). A blue checkmark means you’ve learned the recipe, while no checkmark means you haven’t learned it yet.

Dish Categories

Recipes are divided into categories that you can sort through in the menu.

These categories are often relevant based on which dishes can be used to fulfill a specific request, or which dishes you can use in a festival, or for certain in-game achievement requirements.

Below is a list of all the recipe categories and what types of dishes they contain:

Category Description
Salads Cold dishes typically made with vegetables, oils, and dressings
Soups Hot or cold soups; require the Cooking Pot and can be given on Hearth Day
Sides Side dishes, fried foods, breads, and tofu-based dishes
Main Dishes Hearty meals with high Stamina recovery; entry for the Cook-Off
Desserts Cakes, pies, and sweets; entry for the Bake-Off and can be given on the Pumpkin Festival
Other Recipes Teas, juices, and rice dishes; entry for the Juice Festival
Seasoning Salt, pepper, and spices used to adapt recipes; sold at Paradise Sundries

Ingredient Groups

Some recipes list ingredients as groups rather than as specific items. This means you can use any ingredient within that group to fulfill that ingredient requirement.

You can tell if a recipe can use an ingredient group based on whether the “Items Needed” listing shows more than one item icon in an ingredient box. When this happens you can hover that ingredient in the recipe screen and press “F” to view the Material List, where you can see all valid items for each ingredient group slot.

Cheese Fondue ingredient requires any 1 of the listed vegetables
Tip: Most recipes that have a regular Egg or regular Milk as an ingredient will usually be able to accept the premium versions (Egg + or Milk +) in their ingredient group.

Adapting Recipes

One of the best ways to improve a dish’s quality level is by “Adapting the Recipe”. You can do this by adding any acceptable extra ingredient(s) into the “?” slots.

This is especially useful for fulfilling resident requests and preparing high-quality entries for the Cooking Festivals.

To see any recipe’s acceptable “Adapt Recipe” items, you can press F to view a recipe’s Material List, then move over to one of the “?” slots.

Filling more adapted ingredient slots, especially with higher-quality items, will increase the final dish’s overall quality.

Food Effects

Most recipes in the game grant a temporary effect that activates when eaten. The duration of the buff depends on the dish’s quality:

Dish Quality Effect Duration
★0.5 Base duration
★5 2x base duration
★7 3x base duration

Note that food buffs don’t stack with different recipes, but they can stack with Kagetsu’s Divination.
