In Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar, items are ranked by star quality.

This system measures an item’s overall quality, ranging from 0.5 ★ at the lowest to 7 ★ at the highest, and increasing in 0.5 ★ increments. Items with higher star quality sell for more money at the bazaar, and higher-quality items are sometimes required to fulfill villager requests.

Understanding how star quality works, and how to increase it, is essential for maximizing your earnings throughout the game.

How Quality is Displayed

Star quality is displayed at the top of an item’s icon, shown as a ★ followed by the numerical value of that item’s quality.

When hovering over an item in your bag or storage, the detail pane on the right-hand side also displays that item’s quality using a series of filled ★ icons that reflect the item’s current level.

Note: Some items do not have a star quality and therefore show no stars at all. Items with no quality value include pet food, treats, fodder, and basic cooking ingredients like oil.

What Star Quality Affects

Star quality influences several core mechanics throughout the game:

Affected Stat How It’s Impacted
Item Selling Price Higher quality items sell for more at the bazaar. As an item’s star quality increases, its selling price rises accordingly.
Villager Requests Requirements Many villager requests require items of a specific star quality or higher. To complete these requests, you may need to raise the quality of certain items before turning them in.
Crop & Animal Show Advantages Improving the star quality of crops or animal products gives you a better chance of winning Crop Shows and Animal Shows. These contests reward permanent boosts, making high quality entries important.
Profit from Cooked Items Cooked dishes inherit the star quality of the ingredients used. Using higher quality items in recipes results in meals with better quality and higher selling prices, allowing you to earn more profit than you would by selling the base ingredients on their own.
Processed Items (Windmill Products) Items processed in the windmills inherit the star quality of the items used. Using higher quality materials will produce processed goods with higher quality, which sell for more.
