| Where to Get | Wilbur – Fishing Tutorial (Year 1, Spring 7) |
| Purpose | Catch fish, treasures, and recyclable items by fishing in rivers and ponds |
| Stamina Cost | 40 per reeling attempt |
| Total Upgrades | 8 |
The Fishing Rod can be used to catch fish & various items from any body of water across the map.
Unlike most tools, the Fishing Rod has no jump actions or area effects. Each cast instead begins a fishing minigame, where you can get a bite on the line & then must successfully reel in the fish (or recyclable) through timed inputs.
Upgrading the rod increases its durability, unlocks additional fish species, and improves the Reel Power technique activation rate.

Where to Get
You receive the Fishing Rod from Wilbur on Spring 7, Year 1, during the fishing tutorial.
Wilbur visits your farm in the morning and introduces the basics of casting, along with starting a new request called “Practice Fishing”.

How to Use
We have an entire dedicated wiki page explaining the mechanics of how the fishing minigame works, but here’s a quick overview:
Equip the Fishing Rod and stand in front of a river or pond, then right-click to cast. After casting, just wait for a fish to bite (you’ll see a marker above your head) and then reel in to begin the mini-game.
During the minigame, button prompts appear on screen, and you want to enter the buttons quickly to reduce the fish’s stamina (represented by the blue fish icons).

Missing an input heavily damages the rod’s durability level (the green gauge), and if that reaches zero, the fish escapes.
Reducing the fish’s Stamina to zero successfully lands the catch.
Reel Power
Reel Power is a fishing technique sold at Felix’s Fixings, available from the start of the game.
Once you purchase this technique, it has a chance to activate at any time during the fishing minigame. When it triggers, quickly press right-click to deal 5x the normal Stamina damage to the fish.

All Upgrades
Below we’ve detailed all of the Fishing Rod’s upgrade tiers, along with what the rod gains at each tier & the crafting materials required.
The Orichalcum Fishing Rod is what you’ll need to be able to catch every fish species. The Ultimate Fishing Rod mostly focuses on improving fishing speed and making the fishing mini-game easier. Additionally, the Ultimate Fishing Rod also doubles the total Stamina damage you deal to each fish’s stamina per successful input.
